SHILLONG, Jan 3: The state BJP is scheduled to discuss the implementation of the Inner-Line Permit (ILP) and National Games 2022 with the Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Kiren Rijiju on Monday.
Rijiju is arriving to inaugurate the first-ever sports school of the Northeast at the Assam Rifles Public School in Laitkor.
“Our meeting with the Union Minister is in the second half of the day and we are going to discuss issues of development and also the demand for implementing the ILP in the state and National Games 2022,” state BJP chief Ernest Mawrie told The Shillong Times on Sunday.
Stating that the BJP was very much in sync with the demand of the people of the state and that the Meghalaya Assembly had passed a resolution, Mawrie said they would leave no stone unturned to draw Delhi’s attention to key issues.
He said the state BJP has already had a round of discussion on the ILP with the party’s Northeast in-charge Ajay Jamwal and other leaders in Guwahati on December 27.
“Since he is acquainted with the Northeast and has been in charge of our state, he knows the political situation,” Mawrie said, adding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would be updated on the issue.
Jamwal had suggested that the ILP issue be taken up with Shah.
On National Games 2022, the state BJP chief said: “We want to know from him (Rijiju) how much has been sanctioned for Meghalaya although we have read his statements.”
Mawrie said hosting National Games 2022 would be a “great opportunity” for the state as it would entail construction of playgrounds, indoor stadiums and other infrastructure – all funded by Delhi.
“We will request him to help with the funds for the smooth, successful conduct of the games,” he said.
