SHILLONG, Jan 3: The state unit of the BJP on Sunday asserted that the Centre treats all states equally on the issue of development.
“Every political party has its own voice but as far as the allocation of funds for development is concerned, all states are treated equally,” state BJP chief, Ernest Mawrie, said.
He made the statement close on the heels of the Congress’s charge that the Centre is favouring the BJP-ruled states as far as development is concerned.
Recently, Congress leader PT Sawkmie asked the Centre to be impartial with all states on the issue of development.
He had insisted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government follow their idea of “one nation, one constitution” on the issue of allocation of funds for development.
“The central government doesn’t discriminate against any state in the Northeast. When it allots funds for any projects, it is made clear that the states will have to submit the utilisation certificates,” Mawrie said.
If a project is completed on time and its quality of work is good, then the Centre will sanction funds again for other projects, he said.
The state BJP chief said the funds allocation varies from state to state subject to progress of work and submission of utilisation certificate.
The Congress had alleged one part of the country (read Assam) is getting a lot of development projects while the same is not happening with Meghalaya as it is not ruled by the BJP.
But Mawrie said, “It is not that Assam will get more funds as it is a BJP-ruled state.”
