SHILLONG, Jan 6: Civil Society Women’s Organsiation (CSWO) president, Agnes Kharshiing, has asked the state Chief Secretary, MS Rao, to probe into “corruption links” of Amit Sinha, in-charge of Khapmara Police Outpost, Umroi, who had also reportedly snatched the mobile phone of the Headman of Syllei-U-Lar, Umroi, recently.
Kharshiing informed that Kronding Nongbsap, Headman of Syllei-U-Lar, had shot videos of trucks passing through the Dwar Ksuid Bridge despite government orders being in effect prohibiting trucks beyond 10 metric tonnes to cross the bridge.
“We are told that Kronding Nongbsap had called up Amit Sinha and spoke to him about police-manned check gate at the bridge site so that orders are not violated,” she said, while adding that the headman had also telephoned the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi but there was no response.
Nongbsap, however, spoke to the Superintendent of Police, Ri Bhoi. But while he was waiting for response from the SP, Amit Sinha and one Banjop Maring of Ri Bhoi arrived and the officer in charge snatched the mobile phone of Nongbsap.
“We strongly condemn the threat to common man by police, who should be serving in the interest of the public and not the violators. We urge the Chief Secretary to investigate on corruption-related matters related to Amit Sinha and his links with those who are trying to violate government orders,” Kharshiing said, while urging for sincere police officers to be appointed to investigate into the matter.
