Man seen carrying Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s podium arrested
Washington, Jan 10: A man seen carrying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s podium during the violence at US Capitol has been arrested.
The man, identified as Adam Johnson, 36, of Florida, was booked into the Pinellas County jail on Friday night, reported CNN.
Johnson illegally entered the US Capitol and removed the Speaker of the House’s lectern from where it had been stored on the House side of the Capitol building, the United States Attorney’s Office alleged.
Johnson was charged with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, one count of theft of government property, and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, the Attorney’s Office said. This comes after the man photographed casually sitting with his foot on a desk in Pelosi’s office at the Capitol during the riot was arrested on Friday, said law enforcement officials.
NBC News reported that the man identified as Richard Barnett, 60, of Gravette, Arkansas, was taken into custody in his home state on federal charges of entering and remaining on restricted grounds as well as violent entry and theft of public property, according to a Department of Justice official. Chaotic and violent scenes erupted at the Capitol on Wednesday as supporters of Trump stormed the building to protes. (ANI)
UK Queen, Duke of Edinburgh receive COVID-19 vaccines
London, Jan 10: The United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus, the Buckingham Palace confirmed in a statement.
The vaccinations were administered on Saturday by a household doctor at the Windsor Castle where the royal couple have been staying since early last year, Xinhua news agency quoted British media reports as saying citing a source.
The source added the Queen decided to let it be known she had the vaccination to prevent further speculation.
The Queen, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, are among around 1.5 million people in the United Kingdom to have had at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine so far.
People aged over 80 in the country are among the high-priority groups who are being given the vaccine first.
It has not been disclosed which of the vaccines the royal couple received.
On Friday, a third coronavirus vaccine was approved for use in the country, as the United Kingdom recorded the highest number of coronavirus deaths, as well as the highest daily increase of cases.
As of Sunday morning, the overall Covid-19 cases and deaths in the United Kingdom stood at 3,026,313 and 81,000, respectively. (IANS)
