JOWAI, Jan 13: Elders representing various villages in the Mynsngat-Namdong-Khanduli circle have demanded the setting up of a new C&RD Block at Namdong village as promised by the state government in the past.
Namdong village had donated a plot of land measuring more than 18 acres for the construction of the BDO’s office after the earlier dispensation had made the announcement of setting up the block in 2013.
Recently, the elders from the area had met the Minister in charge C&RD Block, Hamletson Dohling, and submitted a memorandum to remind the government of the demand and request for expedition of the creation of new C&RD Block.
The village Headman had granted a piece of land (approximately 18.48 acres) for the said purpose on approval of the residents. The agreement had been signed by the Block Development Officer of Thadlaskein C&RD Block, leaders of Namdong Village and recommended by the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills.
The Thadlaskein C&RD Block constitutes of 137 villages with population of over 1.37 lakh as per the 2011 census. Moreover, many villages are about 100 kilometers away from the Office of Thadlaskein C&RD Block, which causes problems in terms of communication for residents from Namdong area.
