FKJGP wants expedition of two-lane road work in WKH

NONGSTOIN, Jan 14: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Kyrshai Area Unit and FKJGP West Khasi Hills Unit, on Thursday, met West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner T Lyngwa and demanded the expedition of the two-lane road project from Nongstoin-Chhayagaon via Kyrshai.
The two-laning project of the road, covering a distance of 72 km, was sanctioned under SARDP-NE 2014-2015 under the implementation of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for a cost of Rs 400 crore.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner told the FKJGP members that the project is yet to take off as the state government has not yet deposited the funds of the land compensation in the account of the DC’s office to compensate the land owners.
He assured that after the office receives funds for land compensation, the project will commence soon.
Speaking to pressmen, Probin Snar, general secretary of the FKJGP, informed that the said road is an important route and will benefit the people of the district and also boost the economic conditions of the people.
