SHILLONG, Jan 16: The aggrieved parents of the nine employees of Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) have given a week’s deadline to the authorities to regularise the services of the staff, while also stating that they will resort to take action if the ultimatum goes unheard.
“Right now, we just want a letter from the department regularising the service and no further assurances. We are tired of assurances. If nothing is done this week, then some action will be taken,” an aggrieved parent said.
Referring to the last letter received from the MTDC, the parent said that this time around, the department has shot off the same letter with an assurance that the tentative date for regularisation is March 1, 2021, which was rejected by them (parents) earlier. “What do they mean by this? We do not need assurances. They have complied with all the regulations of the department and completed their probation period and all that was asked of them, but the delay still continues. This is their right,” another aggrieved parent said.
Informing that a board meeting was held recently, the parent said, “Many board meetings were held and they say every time that the agenda will be there. However, neither the grievances of the candidates were discussed nor any update was given”.
Questioning the management for keeping mum on the issue, the parent said, “Can’t the management see that the candidates are being harassed for three years now? Everything is happening right under their nose. Why are they still quiet?”
“It has been three years now and the department has not reacted. We want to know why is the department discriminating against them? They have left the candidates waiting till date and violated the rules and regulations of the department themselves,” the parent said, adding that it is mentally agonising not only the candidates but also the parents.
“We request the state government to look into it and bail us out of this nightmare,” the parent added.
According to the parents of the unregularised staff, their children were recruited in 2017 and it was clearly mentioned that subsequent to the completion of their probation period of one year, the department might extend their services. However, despite having completed three years now, there is still no word from the department to regularise them.
