SHILLONG, Jan 18: Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, has expressed discontent over the attitude of many job-seeking youths who, he says, tend to seek back-door appointments.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, a disgruntled Tongkhar said, “The youths of today should apply for jobs and they need to have confidence in their abilities rather than seeking help elsewhere”.
“After I became a minister, I found many job-seeking youths who rush to meet ministers, seek help from them to secure a government job. From them, a negative aura emanates, which is disappointing. They think they will get jobs once they get a back-up from ministers, politicians or officers,” he said.
The MLA said that youths have zero confidence in their abilities which, according to him, is a matter of concern. “I ask them if they apply for jobs anywhere. However, they do not (apply for jobs); plus, they expect a back-up,” Tongkhar said.
Tongkhar also argued that it is the duty of the legislators to bring development and create job opportunities and not recommend names to secure jobs.
