Body formed to protect Myntdu River

JOWAI, Jan 19: Select like-minded people from various localities of Jowai have formed a group under the banner ‘Khooid Yaka Wah Myntdu’ in a bid to safeguard the Myntdu River.
Myntdu River is known as the Guardian Angel and has been serving the people of Jowai since time immemorial by functioning as the only water source, not only for domestic but also for agricultural usage.
A meeting in this regard was convened at the community hall, Lion Mission Compound, Jowai, and was chaired by a youth leader, Khroo Lamsakhiat Pariat, and attended by youths as well as elders.
After taking the resolution to form the body, office-bearers were elected.
During the meeting, Khroo LPariat was elected chairman, Ami Lypon as the vice chairman, Dapherbon Suchiang as the secretary, Kyllimot Khuid as the assistant general secretary, Orilan Shylla as the treasurer, besides other executive members.
