TURA, Jan 19: An owner of a mini utility vehicle, which was transporting groceries from Assam’s Krishnai town into North Garo Hills last week, is suspected to have been abducted by criminals in Garo Hills.
The owner-cum-driver of the vehicle, Hajiruddin Sk, had left Krishnai town last Friday with groceries meant for a village in North Garo Hills. However, he never returned.
On Sunday, the victim’s family reportedly received a ransom demand, prompting them to approach police in Garo Hills with a missing report. “We have registered a case of kidnapping and recovered the vehicle,” informed North Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Abraham T Sangma.
Hajiruddin was travelling on the road from Mendipathar and Resubelpara towards Tapa Darengchi when he disappeared. His vehicle has been found by police concealed inside a jungle in Tapa Danggre, on the road from Gajing to Songsak in East Garo Hills.
Search operations to locate the victim are still under way.
