TURA, Jan 23: Over 9,000 yaba tablets were confiscated during an operation by West Garo Hills police outside Rajabala town on Friday. A smuggler was also arrested in this connection.
Following the receipt of information about a shipment of large quantity of drugs through the region, the police swung into action and began putting road checks along the route.
According to West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police MGR Kumar, an interstate drug smuggler gang had orchestrated a plan to transport contraband across Meghalaya-Assam border through the Phulbari- Rajabala-Hallidayganj Road.
Police teams, under supervision of the Dadenggre sub-divisional police officer and teams from Rajabala and Selsella stations, put up a series of check points along suspected routes.
It was after this, the police intercepted a 32-year-old man on a motorbike, who was coming from a village near Rajabala town.
On being checked, they found in his possession a large quantity of Yaba tablets totalling 9,263. He was subsequently arrested and the drugs were seized
Meanwhile, police are continuing search to nab the rest of the gang involved.
