Patriotism environs Shillong on Netaji’s 125th birth anniv

SHILLONG, Jan 23: Releasing into the sky 125 tricolour balloons, Indian National Army songs resonating in the early-morning breeze, hoisting of the Tricolour and unveiling of statue were some of the things that were witnessed during the observance of the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Shillong.
A function in this regard was held within the premises of U Soso Tham Auditorium which was organised by Greater Shillong Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Birthday Celebration Committee (GSNSCBBCC).

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who was the chief guest during the programme, hoisted the Tricolour and paid floral tributes to Netaji.
The programme was also attended by other followers of Netaji.
During the programme, Conrad recalled the active association of his father, PA Sangma, with other national leaders in keeping alive the memory of Netaji.
He also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making him a part of the national committee that will decide on the activities to be undertaken for the year-long commemoration as planned by the Centre.
He also announced that a state-level committee will soon be constituted to chalk out programmes for a successful year-long observance of the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji in Meghalaya.
President of GSNSCBBCC, Naba Bhattacharjee, recalled the sacrifice and selfless commitment of Netaji during India’s struggle for freedom.
Statue unveiled
The chief minister, in another function organised by the Jail Road Welfare Committee, unveiled a statue of Netaji.
Conrad, who attended the programme as the chief guest, also beseeched the youths to follow the path and values of Netaji.
KHNAM MLA, Adelbert Nongrum, too, attended the programme as the guest of honour. The programme was also attended by people from different localities and welfare organisations.
