SHILLONG, Jan 29: The Meghalaya High Court on Thursday disposed of a PIL filed against the delay by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) for issuing a no-objection certificate (NOC) for upgrade of the Nongstoin-Wahkaji-Domiasiat-Mawthabah road into a two-lane road under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North-East (SARDP-NE).
The PIL, which was filed by the Joint Action Committee, had also urged the High Court to direct the KHADC (respondent) to issue an NOC for upgrade of the aforesaid road.
After considering the facts and circumstances, the division bench of the High Court said that the road construction has been handed over to the state government. “In such circumstances as stated above, no useful purpose will be served in keeping the writ petition pending and same is liable to be disposed of without any further order,” the directive from the High Court said.
