Webinar
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Shillong Commerce College, organised a Two-Day International Interdisciplinary Webinar on ‘Socio-Economic Issues, Challenges and Policy Framework in Developing Nations’ on Thursday and Friday. According to a statement, the resource persons during the webinar were from Nepal and Sri Lanka. “The webinar was attended by teachers, scholars and students of various colleges and universities from Meghalaya including other states in India and other countries,” the statement said.

Cleaning drive
To observe the National Cleanliness Day 2021, the Uplifter Club of Shillong will organise a one-day cleaning drive on Saturday at ‘Ka Park U Lum Shyllong’. According to a statement, the cleaning drive has been sponsored by the District Level Empowered Committee, East Khasi Hills.

Immunisation
The first round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme in East Garo Hills, covering children below 5 years, will held from February 1 to 3. According to the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), children will be immunised at various polio booths located at Anganwadi centres, health facilities and market areas on Day 1. The team members comprising ANMs, Anganwadi workers, ASHAs and volunteers will carry out a house-to-house oral vaccination drive on the second and third day. Meanwhile, the citizenry has been requested to cooperate with the health workers.

R-Day
Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh celebrated Republic Day with orphans at the Annie Margaret Barr Children’s Village (Girls’ Home) Shnong Khrang, Mawkynrew. Others who attended the celebration were Mawkynrew BDO LT Tariang, village heads and authorities of the Girls’ Home. During the programme, Lyngdoh also gave away racquets, balls, jerseys and monetary assistance to the inmates of the Girls’ Home.

Exhibition
On the Day 2 of the First Circle Level Online Philatelic Exhibition, North East Philatelic Exhibition (NEPEX), 2021, a special cover on Chabimura Tripura was released by Ashok Kumar Poddar, Additional Director General (Coordination), Department of Posts. The exhibition got under way on Thursday and will conclude on Sunday. Philatelists from Meghalaya among other Northeastern states have participated in the four-day event.

Unclaimed body
A body of a man, aged 68 years, was found in the rented house of one Tily Maya Rana on January 23. Accordingly, it was found that the man — identified as Chandra Prakash, son of Krishna Lal and a resident of Wahthapbru, Shillong — had allegedly killed himself by hanging. Subsequently, the body was sent to Shillong Civil Hospital for inquest and post-mortem. The body now has been kept at the hospital morgue for collection.
