SHILLONG, Jan 29: Health Minister, AL Hek, on Friday asserted that the vaccination drive against COVID-19 in the state has been successful with 90 per cent of the targeted health workers coming forward to get themselves inoculated.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday, the Health Minister said that there has not been any complaint against the vaccines yet, and the drive, so far, has been successful.
Asserting that many health workers in the state have gotten themselves vaccinated, Hek said the effective and safe response of the vaccines has amplified the confidence among the citizenry. “The vaccines have shown good results with no side-effects,” the Health Minister said.
Hek said that if there was any policy in place for MLAs and common man to get inoculated, he would be the first one to get the Covishield jabs.
Meghalaya has vaccinated 3,849 health workers out of 4,135 during the first phase till Thursday evening.
The lowest percentage of the health workers who have come forward to get themselves vaccinated is in Ri Bhoi district while the highest is in East Khasi Hills.
The state government aims to finish vaccinating the health workers and frontline workers within six months.
As per reports, only ten people have complaints of minor reactions after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary of Health Department, Sampath Kumar, has said that the fourth state task force meeting has been held and it had been decided that the vaccination exercise will be doubled up within the next one week so that all healthcare workers are vaccinated within next 3-4 weeks’ time.
It may be mentioned that the state task force meeting was followed up by a review meeting headed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
