TURA, Feb 2: A 37-year-old man on Monday allegedly attacked his family members, leaving his mother grievously injured and his brother-in-law dead.
The man, who has a history of mental illness, reportedly perpetrated the assault with a dagger around 5 am on Monday at a village in Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division of West Garo Hills.
The perpetrator, identified as Batcheng Sangma, had attacked his brother-in-law, Poljith Marak, and also his mother, Nadi Sangma. Subsequent to the attack, Poljith started bleeding while Nadi sustained grievous injuries. Hearing their cries for help, the villagers rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the victims.
While the duo was being rushed to Tikrikilla Primary Health Centre, Poljith succumbed to his wounds and was declared brought dead at the hospital.
Nadi is, meanwhile, undergoing treatment at Tura Civil Hospital after preliminary medical attention.
The attacker, on the other hand, is lodged inside a psychiatric ward of the Tura Civil Hospital awaiting an evaluation of his mental health conditions.
