Jaintia freedom fighter remembered on 159th death anniversary


JOWAI, Feb 5: The Sein Raij Shangpung on Friday observed the 159th death anniversary of U Kiri Dhar — the Dolloi and the forgotten hero, who had fought alongside U Kiang Nangbah against the British and died in the battlefield during the pre-Independence period. During the programme at Shangpung Lummukut, floral tributes were paid to the Dolloi. The programme was also attended by the Dolloi of Shangpung Elaka, local MDC, Sein Raij elders and members of the KSU. Earlier, in the day, a marathon was organised and dustbins were distributed as part of the programme.

 

Draft Annual Plan 21-22 for NGH
TURA, Feb 5: The District Planning & Development Council (DPDC), North Garo Hills, on Friday met the heads of various line departments in Resubelpara and approved the Draft Annual Plan, 2021-2022. Deputy Speaker and Chairman of DPDC, Timothy D Shira, along with other members — Kharkutta MLA Rupert Momin, Bajengdoba MLA Pongseng Marak and North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner RP Marak — after thorough revision of the proposals made by development departments, concluded the meet with the approval of the Draft Annual Plan. Shira, during the meeting, said the state government is focused on bringing all-round development in Meghalaya. He also urged the concerned attendees to work with utmost sincerity for the welfare of people.

IGNOU exams from Feb 8
SHILLONG, Feb 5: The Regional Director of IGNOU, Shillong Regional Centre, has informed that the exams that are scheduled from February 8 will be held across various centres in Baghmara, Garobadha, Jowai, Khliehriat, Marbisu, Mawkyrwat, Mawsynram, Mendipathar, Mowkaiaw, Nongstoin, Shillong, Tura and Williamnagar. According to a statement, the examinees have been urged to adhere to COVID SOPs. “In Shillong, the exams will be held in the KJP Synod Complex in Mawkhar, Shillong College in Boyce Road, Women’s College in Upper New Colony and the Regional Centre located in the NEHU Campus,” the statement said. The hall ticket can be downloaded from www.ignou.ac.in.
