SHILLONG, Feb 5: The Khasi-Jaintia Pig Butchers’ Association has asked the state government to lift the interstate trade restrictions on import of pigs.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday, general secretary of the Association, Andy Lyngdoh, said the pork butchers are being subjected to immense hardships owing to the restrictions. “We had to increase the price of pork from Rs 360 to Rs 380 since interstate restrictions have not been lifted,” he said, adding “we are having great difficulties in importing pork”.
He also said that local supply of pork is insufficient.
