Govt on mission to improve education sector: Rymbui

NONGPOH, Feb 12: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has informed that the Meghalaya government is on its mission to improve the education sector and enhance the overall infrastructure of different institutes in the state for the present and generations to come.
The minister was speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of St Vianney’s Higher Secondary School, Umsohlait, Ri Bhoi on Friday.
Rymbui hoisted the school flag at the St Vianney’s playground to mark the opening of the celebration. He was accompanied by Fisheries Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare and MDC Charles Marngar other dignitaries.
Moreover, fathers and sisters of Umsohlait Parish, past pupils, headmen, teachers, students and parents were also present.
The education minister also stated that the government is focused on the draft youth policy with an aim to encourage youths of the state in taking up skill training.
Rymbui also expressed pleasure to associate himself with the opening of the celebration, while also lauding the missionaries, who are founders of the school, for their contribution in setting up St Vianney’s school. He also congratulated the school authority and teachers for their selfless and dedicated services in imparting education to children.
In his address, school principal Fr. Leo Iawbor informed that the school was initiated in 1972 by Brother Franciscan with only 14 students. The full-fledged 50 years of celebration will be held on February 12, 2022.
