SHILLONG, Feb 18: State BJP vice president, Bernard N Marak, has accused the then Congress government of turning major parts of Garo Hills into a non-scheduled area.
“The scheduled areas were changed into a non-scheduled area during the reign of Congress, where its leaders were violating the provisions of the Sixth Schedule itself,” Marak said on Thursday.
Citing RTI findings, Marak said that Non Hill mouzas were introduced to facilitate the general administration like municipality and open the reserved seats.
“BJP will abolish all non-scheduled areas and non-Hill Mauzas which exist without a mouzadar. Tura, Williamnagar, Resu, Baghmara, Tikrikilla, Rajabala, Mahendragarh, Dalu etc, are non-scheduled areas which were hidden from the public,” he said.
Alleging that municipalities in Garo Hills are functioning without the nod from GHADC, Marak said that the BJP is well aware of the violations of the Sixth Schedule and the party assures the people to abolish the non-scheduled areas if elected in majority to the GHADC.
“BJP takes responsibility to maintain the dignity of the Sixth Schedule in Garo Hills against all conspiracies by Congress and other political parties,” he added.
