Police make first arrest in Rymbai mine mishap case

SHILLONG, Feb 18: Meghalaya police have arrested just one person so far in connection with the coal mine mishap in East Jaintia Hills last month.
Police however are on the lookout for a couple of more persons even as an investigation into the incident is underway, sources said.
At least six miners were killed in the accident that occurred while they were working in the mine at Sarkari near Rymbai Elaka in East Jaintia Hills.
The coal miners reportedly fell to a depth of 150 feet after the machine they were operating to dig a tunnel broke.
Assuring that the investigation will be taken to its logical conclusion, the sources informed that the police were collecting concrete evidence in the case.
