Man held for spitting on dough
Meerut, Feb 21: A man was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut after he was caught on a camera ,spitting on the dough while preparing ‘rotis’ at a wedding function. The accused was identified as Naushad. In a police complaint by Hindu Jagran Manch Meerut chief Sachin Sirohi, Naushad has been accused of spreading the coronavirus. The police spokesman said that Naushad will be made to undergo a Covid test and further action would be taken after the reports come in. (IANS)
Robbery at petrol pump
Jaipur, Feb 21: Four masked men robbed a petrol pump worker at a filling station in Mansarovar area here, police said on Sunday. The incident took place after midnight on Saturday when the four unidentified people arrived at the petrol pump on two separate two-wheelers. One of them pointed gun at the petrol attendant and asked him to handover his money collection bag, police said. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at the pump. “A case has been registered on the complaint lodged by the petrol pump operator. The accused have fled away with Rs 23,000. A search is on to nab them,” Muhana Station House Officer (SHO) Lakhan Singh said. The accused are being tracked on the basis of CCTV footage, the SHO said. (PTI)
Ashram chief gets threat calls
Phulbani, Feb 21: The chief of a Kanya ashram in Odisha’s Kandhamal district founded by VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati has received threat calls prompting the police to tighten the security in the ashram, an officer said on Sunday. The chief of Gurukul San skrit Kanya ashram at Jalespatta, Swami Jivanmuktananda Puri has lodged a formal complaint at Timudibandha Police Station, about 125 km from the district headquarters Phulbani town, seeking security after receiving two threat calls in the last 24-hours. While the first threat call was received on Saturday evening, the next one came on Sunday morning from the same telephone number. The police have tightened security in the ashram by deploying armed forces keeping in view of the sensitivity of the case, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Baliguda, Manoj Pujari told PTI. Immediately after getting the complaint, inspector- in-charge of Timudibandha Police Station, Babashankar Saraf visited the ashram and made security arrangements. (PTI)
Live mortar shell found in J&K
Jammu, Feb 21: A live mortar shell was found by labourers during landfilling work in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, officials said. Police were informed about the abandoned shell in the TCP area and a bomb disposal squad was requisitioned to defuse the explosive device, the officials said. They said a group of labourers was busy in landfilling work when they noticed a rusted mortar shell, believed to have come along with the waste concrete material dumped in the locality a few days ago. The bomb disposal squad has reached the spot and efforts are on to neutralise the shell, the officials said. (PTI)
