SHILLONG, Feb 24: Amid the public hue and cry over reports indicating possibility of the state government permanently handing over land in Mawlai to the CRPF for camp set-up, Art and Culture Minister, AL Hek, on Wednesday debunked claims while asserting that the government is mooting construction of a permanent structure of the Tribal Research Institute (TRI).
Echoing deputy chief minister’s sentiments, Hek exhorted people to not be misled with half-baked information. He also assured that he will petition Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and the Home department for relocation of the CRPF camp.
Informing that there is already a tribal research institute in Garo Hills, he said the state government has urged the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to establish another such institute at Mawlai Nongkwar for preserving the culture and tradition of the Khasi and Jaintia.
