MAWKYRWAT, March 3: Joining in the chorus of condemnation, the Synjuk ki Myntri Shnong Hima Maharam has condemned the recent attack on the labourers from Assam, which led to the death of one, at St. Xavier’s College Umoid, South West Khasi Hills.
In a statement, president of the Synjuk, P Wanniang, said that the incident had embarrassed the whole of South West Khasi Hills. “If we do not realise it now, our area will continue to be lagging behind as developmental projects and government programmes will not be taken up anymore,” Wanniang added.
The Synjuk has beseeched the authorities to take the matter seriously and punish the culprits.
Wanniang said that the Synjuk has also requested the Myntri Shnong and Dorbar Shnong within the Hima Maharam to be vigilant and make sure that such an act does not happen in the future.
The Synjuk also encouraged the Jesuit Fathers, who run the St Xavier’s College Umoid, to continue serving the locals who are still lagging behind, especially in terms of the education sector.
