SHILLONG, March 3: The UDP has received a major boost in Mairang Constituency after leaders from different political parties including big guns — Congress and National People’s Party — joined the party.
Around 200 party leaders from various political parties were inducted as members into the party by UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh during a function at the party’s office in Mairang.
Speaking at the function, the UDP president said that those who joined the UDP today will remain with the party even after the 2023 Assembly elections.
Metbah also asked the party members to immediately take up any misunderstanding between the party colleagues with him.
Banking on the need to strengthen the youth and women’s wing of the party in the constituency, the party chief urged the leaders of the Mairang Circle to convene a meeting to mobilise women and youths for the frontal organisations. “This will make things easier during the elections,” the UDP president said.
He called upon the public to give them more than 30 seats in the next election, after which the party would address the many issues in the state.
Others who spoke on the occasion were S. Mawlong a Congress leader who was with the grand old party for 30 years, besides SL Marshillong, T Mawlong and others.
Further, Ranikor MLA Pius Marwein, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh and vice president Allantry F Dkhar were also present.
On the same day new members of Mairang UDP Circle were elected – S Roy Ryntathiang as president, Metbah Lyngdoh as working president, SS Syiemlieh as vice president, Tairos Warjri as general secretary, Pyndap Nongsiej as treasurer, E Nongrang as organising secretary and PS Lyngdoh as adviser.
