SHILLONG, March 6: Tura District Cricket Association A booked their place in the state final of the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s Inter-District U-23 Men’s Cricket Tournament with a smashing victory by an innings and 116 runs against North Garo Hills in the Zone 2 final in Mendipathar today.
Having been skittled for 65 in the first innings, to which TDCA-A replied with 292, NGH began their second innings today still requiring 227 runs to make their opponents bat again, a seriously uphill task.
In the end, they were all out for 111, with Manish Sharma taking his second five-for in the match (5/38), giving him match figures of 11/49 after he bagged 6/11 in the first innings yesterday.
Opening batsman Success R Marak produced a patient half-century, making 52 in 139 deliveries before being given out for obstructing the field. Drabest Marak (17), Gilseng Momin (16) and Dairo A Marak (15) got starts but could not push on.
As in their first innings, North Garo Hills got a good start – they had reached 87 for the loss of 2 wickets before losing their last eight wickets for 24 runs.
To go along with Sharma’s five-wicket haul, Purav Agarwal scalped 4/22 as TDCA-A completed victory in 58.1 overs.
The Tura-A team will now wait for the Zone 1 final between Shillong Cricket Association A and Ri-Bhoi, which will begin on Monday in Nongpoh.
