Bank unions join nationwide stir

SHILLONG, March 9: The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), Meghalaya unit, has called for a two-day protest on March 15 and 16 against the proposal of privatisation of nationalised banks and insurance companies.
“The UFBU strongly opposes the government’s move for implementation of the new labour codes in which many existing labour rights have been diluted or taken away,” said UFBU convenor, Saradindu Das.
He added that the UFBU also opposes various announcements made in the Budget by the central government with regard to the reforms such privatisation of IDBI Bank and two PSBs, setting up of bad bank disinvestment in LIC, privatisation of one General Insurance Company allowing FDI in insurance sector up to 74 per cent, aggressive disinvestment and sale of public sector undertaking, etc.
