TURA, March 9: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh has denied the members of the All Garo Hills Joint Action Committee (AGHJAC), comprising several student and social groups from the region, to hold a sit-in they had earlier mooted for Thursday outside the Tura DC office.
The DC has denied the Committee to hold the sit-in owing to the restrictions in the run-up to the GHADC elections.”No permission will be granted for any demonstration outside the DC office,” the DC maintained.
The AGHJAC will reportedly continue to oppose the participation by non-tribals in the GHADC elections.
“The recent statements in support of non-tribal participation by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma are highly condemned. The GHADC is meant for the tribals only,” the AGHJAC said.
