BSF seizes items worth Rs 33 lakh
SHILLONG, March 15: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya on Sunday seized a huge quantity of cosmetic items worth around 33 lakh during an operation near the Indo-Bangladesh border. On March 14, acting on a tip-off, the BSF troops of BOP Baghmara recovered cosmetic and other miscellaneous items from a jungle area near the international border at Bhawanipur village in South Garo Hills. The items, which were recovered from a hidden place in the jungle, were supposed to be smuggled to Bangladesh. Subsequently, the seized items were handed over to Customs Office Dalu for further investigation.

Two-day NEHU conference
SHILLONG, March 15: The Department of Tourism and Hotel Management of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) will organise its third International conference from March 18 to 20. According to a statement, the conference will be attended by participants that include delegates from different parts of the country. “The conference will be debating on the vivid facets of Tourism Experiential Management and Marketing through 2 Keynote addresses, 4 Technical sessions, 6 plenary sessions and 1 special session on post-COVID research opportunities in the Hotels of India and Asia,” the statement said. It may be mentioned that the conference is supported by the Union Ministry of Tourism, North Eastern Council and Indian Council of Social Science Research — North Eastern Regional Centre.

Summer internship drive by IIM
SHILLONG, March 15: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong, has concluded its summer placements for the 2020-22 batch, which, according to the institute, is the largest batch in its history with 250 students. According to a statement, the summer placement season at the IIM Shillong witnessed participation from 70 recruiters, spanning across several domains such as Consulting & Strategy, Finance, General Management, Human Resources, IT & Analytics, Operations and Sales & Marketing. “This year saw an increase of more than 20 per cent in the batch size, and as a testimony to the recruiters’ increasing faith in IIM Shillong’s emphasis on rigorous academics,” the statement added.

Consumer Rights Day prog in EGH
WILLIAMNAGAR, March 15: To commemorate the World Consumer Rights Day, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner organised an awareness programme at Bansamgre on Monday. Thematised on ‘Alert and Responsible Consumers’, the event was participated by officials. During the programme, Adv Jan N Arengh enlightened the gathering on Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and the Central Consumer Protection Authority. He also called on the people to be au courant with their consumer rights.
