SHILLONG, March 16: Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, on Tuesday informed the House that 8,970 people, falling under the category of general public, have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Replying to Opposition MLA Zenith Sangma, Conrad said that his government has been successful in effectively managing the COVID-19 situation in state.
Stating that Meghalaya is among the states with lowest number of active cases in the country, he reminded the House that even the World Health Organization had applauded Meghalaya for its approach in dealing with the pandemic.
Giving details about the vaccination drive in Meghalaya, he said that as of now, 54,749 doses of first shot have been administered, while the number of second dose stands at 9,003 across the state.
With regard to the vaccination of health workers, Conrad said 19,186 health workers have received the first dose, while 7,405 health workers have received the second dose of the vaccine.
Similarly, 26,593 frontline workers have received the first shot, while 560 have received their second dose.
IMR & MMR
Meanwhile, the chief minister also informed the House that Meghalaya has achieved second-highest decline in infant mortality rate (IMR).
He added that the maternal mortality rate (MMR) of South West Garo Hills with 107 is even lower than the national figure of 113.
The chief minister also said that the institutional delivery percentage in the state has taken a leap from 49 per cent in 2014-15 to 59 per cent in 2020-21.
While the institutional delivery percentage in East Garo Hills has improved from 40 per cent in January 2020 to 49 per cent in January 2021, the percentage in East Jaintia Hills has increased from 37 per cent to 47 per cent during the same period, Conrad informed.
