Gratitude to Syiem of Hima Sohra
SHILLONG, March 16: The Coordination and Welfare Committee of the Shella Bholaganj Block and adjoining areas has expressed gratitude to the Syiem of Hima Sohra for looking into the issue of the non-issuance of NOC for trading licence for the non-tribal traders of Bholaganj. According to a statement, the Committee had earlier sought the NOC to carry out business activities.

PDS quota for EKH
SHILLONG, March 16: Rice under NFSA (AAY and PHH) and non-NFSA and wholemeal atta for March has been released through the respective fair price shops in East Khasi Hills, the Deputy Commissioner (Supply) informed in a statement issued here. The scale of issue for AAY rice is 35 kg per card at Rs 3 per kg, PHH quota at the scale of 5 kg per head at Rs 3 kg and non-NFSA at 7.215 kg per household at Rs 12.70 to Rs 13 per kg. Wholemeal atta will be distributed at the scale of 5 kg per card in urban areas and 3 kg per card in rural areas at Rs 10.50 per kg.

Anti-tobacco rally in city
SHILLONG, March 16: An anti-tobacco rally was organised by Holy Child Higher Secondary School, Shillong, at Demthring on Tuesday, which was participated by schoolchildren along with the teachers. The students held placards which read slogans such as ‘Do not burn lungs for they are the banks of life’ and ‘Hey friends! Do not sell tobacco, you will be held responsible for the untimely death of your brothers and sisters’. The objective of the rally was to create awareness among the public and help them abstain from consuming tobacco products in any form. “This humble urge to the public was not to make them feel humiliated but to fight together against tobacco abuse,” the statement said.

Registration for migrant workers
TURA, March 16: The West Garo Hills District Administration has made it mandatory for migrant workers to register themselves and acquire a registration card from the Labour department. According to a statement, the documents required for registration are EPIC, Aadhaar, Driving License or PAN number or BPL card or any other documents issued by the Government, including two passport size photographs. The registration can be done online at https://investmeghalya.gov.in or offline at the District Labour Office, Dakopgre, Tura.

Rally to condemn ‘murder’
NONGSTOIN, March 16: The KSU organised a protest rally to condemn an alleged murder of a 25-year-old woman from Umdang village in West Khasi Hills.Various NGOs and residents from the village also joined the chorus demanding stringent action against the perpetrator. It may be mentioned that on March 1, the body of the woman, who was allegedly murdered by her husband Arius Nianglang, was recovered from her residence. It was after this the police along with the help of the family members arrested Nianglang on March 2.
