SHILLONG, March 17: Meghalaya had to undergo another challenging day in the Women’s Senior One Day Trophy, suffering a 285-run defeat to Delhi in Chennai today.
Meghalaya were made to field first in the Elite Group E match after Delhi won the toss and slogged it out for the full 50 overs, with Delhi posting 332/2.
Opener Shweta Sehrawat struck 118 before she was bowled by Meghalaya captain Debasmita Dutta (1/56).
Earlier Vandana Chaturvedi (58) had been dismissed by Neelam Roy (1/62).
The opening pair had put on 139 for the first wicket and were going at nearly seven runs an over.
Meghalaya, however, were able to slow Delhi down a touch but were unable to make further inroads following the fall of the centurion.
Although there were a few changes to the Meghalaya 11, the batting still found it hard going and the team were all out for 47.
Three batsmen were out for 9 – Dutta, Sanchisa Sangma and guest player Rajni Lodhi – as no one was able to reach double figures.
Meghalaya will next face Tamil Nadu on Friday.
