SHILLONG, March 21: The Shillong Press Club has expressed concern over the assault of a pressman at Len Mawpat village in Sohiong recently.
In the incident which happened on Saturday last, a camera person with T7 News, Meban Kharmalki, was reportedly intimidated, abused and assaulted by one Komel Nongbri, former Sordar of Sohiong.
It happened while the pressman was covering a public meeting of the residents of Len Mawtap, who opposed the construction of a public ground under the PMKKY scheme amounting to Rs 22.50 lakh. The residents said that there was no explanation or clarity about the scheme from the office of the BDO.
The cameraman attempted to speak to Nongbri to gather some information on the matter when the latter behaved unethically.
Taking strong note of this matter, the SPC has demanded an unconditional public apology from the accused Nongbri.
It further said that in failing to do so the Press Club will take legal action against the accused.
