SHILLONG, March 23: As the entire nation witnesses boost for people to voluntarily turn up for getting vaccinated against COVID-19, the Director of North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH, has found a rather draconian measure to induce the institute faculty and students to take the jabs.
In a notice, Director of NEIAH, Dr PK Goswami, conveyed that those failing to get vaccinated will not be allowed to attend to their duties, adding that no payment of any kind would even be disbursed to them.
The director had earlier sounded alarm over the possibility of emergence of the new virus strains as well as the rapid increase in the number of fresh cases urging all to take the vaccine.
In another order, Goswami had imposed penalty on the students of third year Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery for their ‘unauthorised’ absence from classes on two days — March 15 and16 — as well as students of Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery. The penalty included suspension of access to various facilities like library, bus service and canteen.
