SHILLONG, April 1: The Congress on Thursday kicked off its election campaign for the upcoming Mawryngkneng by-election by organising an election rally to drum up support for party candidate, Highlander Kharmalki.
Addressing the gathering, senior Congress leader and East Shillong MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh expressed hope that voters of Mawryngkneng will support Kharmalki as they had supported late David Arnold Nongrum in the previous two elections.
She also highlighted the failures of the NPP-led MDA Government on all fronts despite being at the helms of affairs for three years, noticeably its failure to resolve the power crisis in the state.
“Power generating companies have been imposing regulations on MeECL and there seems to be no end to the load-shedding in the state,” she said.
She also lambasted the MDA Government for its failure to deal with rampant illegal mining and transportation of coal.
Mawsynram MLA, Himalaya Shangpliang and Umroi MLA, George B. Lyngdoh, also addressed the gathering, among other Congress leaders.
