SHILLONG, April 3: Ahead of the by-elections to Mawryngkneng and Rajabala, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has said that the preparations are in full swing, even though the Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to announce the polling dates.
According to the CEO, Frederick R Kharkongor, on Saturday, the Election department has already acquired the electronic voting machines (EVMs) for both the bypolls. “We held a video conference with both the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police as part of the preparations for the Rajabala bypoll,” Frederick said.
The CEO also informed that the department will create auxiliary polling stations in those areas having over 1,000 voters in Rajalabala, in a bid to reduce the number of voters in the polling booths as per COVID-19 protocol by the ECI.
