SHILLONG, April 3: Congress legislator from East Shillong, Ampareen Lyngdoh, has expressed concern over water scarcity in parts of the capital city.
“We do not know what is going on in the water distribution system. We don’t know what the public health engineering (PHE) department and Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) are doing,” Lyngdoh said here on Saturday.
According to her, water scarcity in the city has been a common problem and in the past few weeks there had been “irregularities” in the supply of water committed by both the PHE and SMB.
“This is absolutely unfair. The state government is failing us again and again,” Lyngdoh said.
Meanwhile, the business of supplying water by private tankers appeared to continue flourishing in the city.
“It is sad that the people have to buy water. This is totally unacceptable. The government needs to take immediate action,” she said.
