Rs 50L seized in Pipili
Puri (ODISHA), April 5: Police on Monday seized currency notes of Rs 50 lakh from two persons at Pipili in Odisha where assembly by-poll is slated for April 17, police said. The two men who were in a motorcyle were caught at Tarkaj Square when they tried to give the police the slip during a routine check and detained for interrogation. Preliminary report said that the two men, who hail from Balanga area in Puri district, did not stop at the frisking point. They were chased by the police and intercepted at Tarakaj Square. The seized money was in the denomination of Rs 500 in 20 bundles, Pipili tehsildar Sapan Kumar Nanda said. The ruling BJD in a petition to the Odisha chief electoral officer alleged that the two men belonged to the BJP. BJP candidate for the seat Ashrit Pattnayak denied the allegation and said the money does not belong to the party. The by-election is being held in Pipili assembly seat after the death of its BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy in October, 2020. (PTI)

100-year old Dairy shut
Ambala, April 5: One hundred years old Ambala Military Dairy Farm has been closed. This Military Farm was set up in the year 1920 although the Military Cantonment was established in the year 1843 by the English rulers. Now the military farm has been disbanded after the Army Headquarters took decision to do away with military farms in the Army cantonments in the country. Military Farm Ambala is one of the oldest Farms when first Farm was set up in Allahabad in the year 1889 followed by such farms in Delhi, Jammu and Shrinagar. Military Farm was set up in Ambala in the year 1920. (UNI)

4 women, man detained in UP
Ballia (UP), April 5: Four women and a man were taken into custody Monday for allegedly causing a commotion at the camp office here of Uttar Pradesh minister Anand Swaroop Shukla and “misbehaving” with him, police said. Witnesses said the woman also allegedly threw chairs around as they were not happy with the minister’s response to their grievances on the release of grant money for school students. They created a ruckus and misbehaved with him and his supporters, said Ballia Kotwali in-charge Bal Mukund Mishra. The women on their part have accused BJP workers present at the camp office for the commotion. The women had gone there to meet the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs to press their demand of releasing grant for children in private schools. The minister took their applications and also spoke to the district’s Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) over the phone, but the woman were not happy with this and surrounded the minister, Mishra said. Witnesses said the women demanded an immediate release of grant money. (PTI)
