SHILLONG, April 10: The Opposition Congress has questioned the partnership between the National People’s Party (NPP) and the UDP (United Democratic Party) with the latter attacking the former for messing up with the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh said Assembly Speaker and UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh, campaigning in the Garo Hills, accused both Congress and the NPP of ruining the GHADC while seeking votes for the UDP.
“When the president of a major partner like the UDP makes such a remark on an election platform, the partnership between the coalition partners is questionable,” she said on Saturday.
The Congress MLA claimed her party is a strong force. “It is Congress versus the rest on the GHADC turf, as evident from the entire Cabinet trooping down to the Garo Hills to woo the electors,” she said, not ruling out (Contd on P-4)

The ruling NPP and its coalition partners have gone all out for the GHADC polls while Congress has been a bit subdued.
The NPP and Congress are contesting all the 29 council seats. The UDP is contesting in 18 and believes its brand of regionalism will help it open the account in the GHADC.
