SHILLONG, April 14: The HSPDP, an ally of the NPP-led MDA coalition, has categorically refused to join the oust-James bandwagon even though it has maintained that there is no difference among the coalition partners on the power issue.
“The UDP may have already demanded the change of portfolio of the minister in-charge of Power but we are not going to make the same demand,” HSPDP president K.P. Pangniang said.
Refusing to comment on the allegations of massive irregularities in the MeECL, Pangniang said that they would conduct detailed discussions on the “unconfirmed allegations” before coming out with any statement.
“Our party will go deep into the matter and examine it to find out the ground reality and confirm whether these allegations were true or not,” he said.
Pointing out that difference in opinion is common among political parties, Pangniang said, “Once we find out the details we will met the chief minister to convene an all-party meeting of the MDA allies to discuss the matter.”
Enquired whether the HSPDP would pitch for the Power portfolio since the UDP had already been awarded the plump Home portfolio, the HSPDP president said, “It is too early to speak about portfolios. First of all we need to examine the alleged irregularities in the department and then we will take a final call.”
