SHILLONG, April 16: The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, has described the use of nomenclatures for Vice Chancellor Prof SK Srivastava as “an attempt to mislead the public and smacks of mala fide intent” while urging public to not be misled.
The NEHU has alleged that several associations — North-Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA), Meghalaya Tribal Teachers’ Association (MeTTA) and Meghalaya Confederation for Academic Welfare (MeCAW) — have time and time again referred Srivastava as a “Caretaker”, “Term-ended”, “Term-expired”, “Acting” Vice Chancellor in both print and electronic media.
The University condemns these actions and urges the organisations to desist from indulging in such deplorable acts, a statement issued here said.
As per the communication received from the Ministry of Education  dated September 22, 2020, Srivastava will continue to hold office for such period not exceeding a total period of one year or till his successor is appointed, whichever is earlier, the statement said. Srivastava will continue to hold the office of the VC and exercise the powers and the duties strictly in accordance with the NEHU Act & Statutes, it added.
Srivastava had assumed the office of the vice chancellor on September 24, 2015, for a period of five years which was completed on September 23, 2020. He is continuing as the VC after expiry of his full five-year term as per the direction of the Centre, the University stated.
