GUWAHATI, April 22: Assam Police have arrested two homeopathy doctors for allegedly practicing allopathy in private hospitals in the city by submitting forged MBBS degree certificates.

The arrests were made following a complaint lodged recently with the Bhangagarh police by Sujit Bordhan, the registrar of Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences, which is situated in the Narkasur hilltop area here.

In the FIR, Bordhan stated that “Hrishikesh Bhuyan and Monoranjan Roy, both homeopathic doctors, were reportedly practicing allopathic medicine in a few private hospitals of Guwahati by submitting fake MBBS degree certificates in the name of Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences.”

“Accordingly a case was registered at Bhangagarh police station vide Bhangagarh PS Case No 201/2021 under Sections 420/468/471 IPC. Investigation of the case has been transferred to the crime branch,” an official statement issued here on Thursday informed.

Both the accused have been apprehended and interrogation is going on.

Bhuyan, 25, hails from the Basistha Chariali area here, while Roy belongs to Botiamari village under Boko police station of Kamrup district.

The development comes in the midst of a precarious situation in view of a steep rise in COVID-19 cases in Kamrup Metropolitan district.
