B’desh comes to India’s aid

NEW DELHI, April 30: Bangladesh has come to the aid of India in its grim fight against COVID-19 pandemic and offered to supply vital medicines and medical equipment.
According to official sources, the country has offered to dispatch emergency medicines and medical equipment supplies which include 10,000 vials of injectable anti-viral, oral anti-virals, 30,000 PPE kits, and several thousand of zinc, calcium, vitamin C and other necessary tablets.
The High Commission of India in Bangladesh thanked the Dhaka government for expressing their solidarity with New Delhi in its fight against COVID-19.
Bangladesh said that it stands in solidarity with its close neighbour at this critical moment and Dhaka is ready to provide and mobilise support in every possible way to save lives. “The Government of Bangladesh expresses deep sorrow and condolences at the loss of lives in India due to the recent spread of the COVID-19 pandemic,” it added.
Incidentally, Bhutan has offered to supply much-needed oxygen gas to the Northeastern states.
Bhutanese nationals evacuated from New Delhi
Amid the abnormal rise in COVID-19 cases in New Delhi, as many as 30 citizens of Bhutan suspected to be affected by the virus were evacuated to Thimpu by a chartered flight.
According to sources, out of the total passengers, 26 were active COVID-19 cases. All the passengers were wearing protective suits and were directly escorted to the isolation facilities in Thimphu. It was learnt that the cabin crew and pilots of the aircraft were also directly sent to the quarantine facilities.
Meanwhile, some 50 referral patients from Kolkata would also be returning home in another flight.
Sources also said that given the deteriorating situation in the country, especially in Delhi, the infected Bhutanese, those in the Royal Bhutan Embassy, a few referral patients, and Bhutanese residents in the Indian capital city were evacuated.
