Govt announces epicentres of ASF

SHILLONG, April 30: The Meghalaya Government has declared various locations in the state as epicentres of African Swine Fever (ASF).
According to a statement, the directive was issued after test results of pig samples were received and the outbreak of African Swine Fever was confirmed in Meghalaya.
The locations in East Khasi Hills that have been declared as epicentres of African Swine Fever are Mawlai Nongkwar, Pig Farm Nongpyiur, Thangsning, Kseh Pyndeng, Nongkseh and Lygkyrdem. On the other hand, Raitong, Umran Dairy and Patarim in Ri Bhoi, and Pig Farm Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills have been declared as epicentres of African Swine Fever.
“The restrictions are applicable with immediate effect in the villages under one-km radius surrounding infected premises (epicentre of disease) designated as ‘Infected Zone’ and in all villages falling under 10-km radius surrounding infected premises (epicentre of disease) designated as ‘Surveillance Zone’,” the statement said.
