SHILLONG, May 4: The Meghalaya Government is targeting to complete close to 1,800 km of road connectivity within March 2022 under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
“The overall target for the financial year is very high. We have about 1,800 kms to be constructed and we hope that we will be able to complete 90-95 per cent of the target by March 2022,” said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday, while briefing reporters after the PMGSY review meeting.
Referring to the work undertaken last year under the PMGSY scheme, the chief minister said,” Last year, the performance was good during which out of the target of 800 kilometres, we are able to complete over 750 kilometres.”
Stating that the target has doubled this time around, the chief minister expressed hope that his government will be able to achieve the target as sanctions have also come from the Centre.
He further informed that the details, including the various aspects and issues of the project, were discussed with the engineers and deputy commissioners during the meeting.
Earlier, during the Budget session, the chief minister had informed that Meghalaya has reached a spending of over Rs 600 crore in terms of the funds of the PMGSY and that recently, another tranche of funds was released. He had also said that the state was expecting to get another Rs 200 crore within this fiscal year under the PMGSY.
