SHILLONG, May 6: Stiff opposition against the leadership of state BJP president, Ernest Mawrie, continues unabated with yet another senior leader resigning from the post of West Garo Hills District BJP president and the matter reaching Meghalaya in-charge of the party, Dr M Chuba Ao, for his intervention.
The resigning BJP president of the district cited ‘lack of vision and leadership in the incumbent state BJP president and heavy influence of two other leaders’ as contributing factors for him quitting the post.
In the letter to the state party president, West Garo Hills BJP president, Gopal Ch Sarma, said that Mawrie had told them that the candidates for the GHADC will be selected as per the recommendations of the district president but unfortunately when he along with few other district presidents met him in Shillong for recommendations, he misbehaved with them.
“You insultingly told me that the recommendations made by the district president do not have any value,” Sarma stated.
Sarma said that Mawrie instead listened to the party’s district vice president, Dipayan Chakraborty, and allotted tickets to Ranjit Rabha for Naguapara seat and Fojibor Rahman in Shyamnagar, only to lose both the seats.
Citing another incident during the election rally at Naguapara, wherein Mawrie allegedly insulted Sarma in the presence of everyone, which even angered the crowd, Sarma said, “All these simply prove you are unfit for the post you are holding. I am sorry to say that our party is sinking under your leadership which is very unfortunate and unwanted”.
It may be recalled that earlier, senior BJP leader, Dr KC Boro, had also resigned from the post of state vice president maintaining that the BJP president has failed to lead the party in the right direction.
Asserting that Meghalaya in-charge of BJP, Dr Chuba Ao, has the knowhow of things, Boro said that the former has been requested to take up the matter with the party’s central leadership as many more senior leaders from the entire state are reportedly in line to resign.
