10 people test positive in Nongpoh as Health dept conducts random testing

NONGPOH/JOWAI/SHILLONG, May 17: Owing to the continuous surge in COVID-19 cases in Ri Bhoi, the Health department on Monday conducted random testing in two separate areas of Nongpoh. The random testing was conducted at downtown Nongpoh as well as Dong Lumsohphoh, which is also a containment zone till May 21.
As many as ten persons were found positive during the random testing at Dong Lumsohphoh, whereas no positive cases were detected at downtown Nongpoh. It may be mentioned that total number of active COVID-19 cases in Ri Bhoi stands at 682 as on Sunday evening.
Home quarantine
Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah on Monday informed that all persons, who had visited the house of (L) Boldwin Sumer of Umsawnongkharai village, to undergo home quarantine for 10 days and self-monitor their health.
If a person develops any symptoms related to COVID-19, the DC advised them to contact the District Control Room (03638232028/1077) or helpline (8797520449).
Further, Kurbah also informed that citizens requiring support or advice on COVID/health-related issues can contact Dr. Bareh Pohchen, former DM&HO of Ri Bhoi and former Joint Director of Health Service (MCH&FW) on 9862070470 from Monday to Saturday between 1 pm and 5 pm.
CM: Look into COVID patients loitering in EKH
After 75 people were reportedly found roaming around freely despite testing positive for COVID-19 in Jongksha village, Upper Shillong, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday directed the officials of the Health department to look into the matter and assured that necessary steps will be taken as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo informed that the area has been contained and the district administration has deployed CRPF and police personnel at the village.
Micro-containment areas in WJH
West Jaintia Hills District Magistrate, LSN Garod Dykes, has declared Umrapasa in Chilliangraij Jowai, Joseph Nardini Seminar in Ummulong and Lumpdang locality in Mowtyrshiah village as micro containment zones after COVID-19 cases were detected in the aforementioned areas.
