DC calls on medical pros to fight COVID

JOWAI, May 18: With COVID-19 giving the entire nation’s healthcare systems a run for their money during the second wave, there has been advocacy of the bolstering of Meghalaya’s health infrastructure, especially in rural areas which are considered vulnerable.
While this may seemingly take time, the state can pro tem make use of whatever manpower available to curb the present spread of coronavirus.
Keeping this in mind, Garod LSN Dykes, Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills, has appealed to all the retired doctors, paramedics, psychiatrists, counsellors in the district to volunteer with their services pertaining to medical or mental health, besides psychosocial care support during the course of the pandemic.
The DC said that those willing to contribute their service for the cause can submit their information details to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills through email at [email protected].
Once inducted to offer their service, these persons will be available for the public in need through phone consultation with a fixed timing (morning and evening) as feasible to the concerned volunteer.
He also informed that the contact details and time schedule of the volunteers will be shared in the public domain through print and electronic media and in the district administration’s website.
