SHILLONG/TURA/MAWKYRWAT, May 18: The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has declared Madan Mawser and Phanniewlah villages under Mawphlang C&RD Block as containment zones.
According to a statement on Tuesday, the directive was necessitated after a spurt in cases in the aforesaid villages. Currently, there are 25 active cases in Madan Mawser and Phanniewlah villages.
Movement in the containment zones, following the enforcement of the directive, has been barred and the district magistrate has warned action against the violators of the directive.
NGH market contained
Kharkutta market in North Garo Hills was on Tuesday declared a containment zone after 13 people in the area tested positive for COVID.
As per the directive issued in this regard, the entire market area shall remain under containment from 5 pm of May 18 till 6 am of May 21.
Barring medical teams, all inhabitants inside the containment zone have been directed to strictly remain inside their house.
Meanwhile, North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner RP Marak has appealed to the citizenry to refrain from disseminating misleading information relating to vaccination on social media. “All persons spreading fakes news relating to public health issues can be booked under Section 54 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897,” the DC warned.
Fruit, vegetable shops in Tura Supermarket closed
The District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Ram Singh, has ordered the closure of fruit and vegetables shops at Tura Supermarket including vegetables Hawkers Zone in and around the supermarket with immediate effect to prevent the further spread of virus.
The order said that the people including the shopkeepers, vegetables sellers, etc., have not been following the social distancing norms and COVID-19 protocols at the fruit and vegetables shops of Tura Supermarket and the Hawkers Zone.
The order also directed the CEO of Tura Municipal Board to regulate the matter in coordination with the market committee and facilitate shops to be shifted to other localities of Tura town.
SWKH houses contained
South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, C Kharkongor, on Tuesday declared two houses at Nonglang and Balat villages as containment area after the detection of positive cases/high-risk contacts in the area.
“The office found that it is necessary to declare the house and compound of Tishinroy Shylla and Baleisha Sangma as a containment area so as to restrict the unregulated entry and exit movement on site,” the DC said in a statement.
