Man City’s De Bruyne fractures nose, eye socket in collision
PORTO, May 30: Kevin De Bruyne fractured his nose and eye socket during Manchester City’s Champions League final loss to Chelsea with less than two weeks before the start of the European Championship. The 29-year-old Belgian playmaker had to be replaced by Gabriel Jesus in the 60th minute on Saturday following a collision with Antonio Rudiger. The Chelsea defender was booked for the challenge on De Bruyne, who left the field in tears at the Estadio do Dragao. De Bruyne provided an update on his condition on Sunday morning. “Hi guys just got back from the hospital,” he tweeted. “My diagnosis is Acute nose bone fracture and left orbital fracture. I feel okay now. Still disappointed about yesterday obviously but we will be back.” (AP)
Olympic bound Indian wrestlers’ camp in Warsaw from next week
New Delhi, May 30: A month-long training-cum-exposure camp for the Olympic Games bound freestyle wrestlers is scheduled to commence in Warsaw, Poland, next week, a Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) official said on Sunday. “We are working on the European exposure tour for the core group of wrestlers. The Indian team will also compete in the World Ranking Series in Warsaw from June 8 to 13. Hopefully, the team would leave next week,” WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar told IANS. “After the ranking series, Indian team will also attend a coaching camp in Poland. The Indian team would return in the first week of July,” he said. (IANS)
India golfer Tvesa Malik finishes T-10th at Italian Open
PIEDMONT, May 30: Indian golfer Tvesa Malik carded one-over 73 in the final round to sign off a creditable tied 10th at the Ladies Italian Open here. Tvesa birdied the first two holes and even got into a share of the lead but eventually finished T-10, her first Top-10 this season. A day after recording a stunning six-under back nine during her round of 66, Tvesa was hoping to record her best finish on the Ladies European Tour. Her career-best finish at LET is T-6 at Hero Indian Open in 2019. (PTI)
Teen Swiss rider Dupasquier loses life after crash
Mugello (Italy), May 30: Swiss Moto3 rider Jason Dupasquier has succumbed to injuries sustained in a crash at a qualifying race at the Italian Grand Prix on Saturday, organisers MotoGP said on Sunday. He was 19. “We’re deeply saddened to report the loss of Jason Dupasquier,” MotoGP tweeted. “On behalf of the entire MotoGP family, we send our love to his team, his family and loved ones. You will be sorely missed, Jason. Ride in peace.” Dupasquier, only in his second season in Moto3, was struck by another bike after he fell. After doctors attended to him there, he was airlifted to Florence’s Careggi hospital where he underwent chest surgery for a vascular lesion. Dupasquier’s team, Pruestel GP, has withdrawn from Sunday’s race. (IANS)
Milkha Singh in stable condition, discharged from hospital
Chandigarh, May 30: Legendary Indian sprinter Milkha Singh was on Sunday discharged from a private hospital where he was getting treatment for COVID-19 infection even as he continues to be on oxygen support. While the 91-year-old Milkha was discharged in stable condition on the request of his family, his 82-year-old wife Nirmal Kaur had to be shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Saturday night due to increasing oxygen requirement. “On the request of the family, Mr Milkha Singh was discharged from the hospital today in a stable condition. He is on oxygen and nutritional support,” the Fortis hospital, Mohali, said in its update. “Mrs Milkha Singh had to be shifted to the ICU last night due to increasing oxygen requirements. She continues to be stable.” (PTI)
Thierry Henry in Belgium’s coaching staff for Euro 2020
BRUSSELS, May 30: Former French footballer Thierry Henry is back in Belgium’s coaching staff for the European Championship. Belgium, the world’s top-ranked team, made the announcement on Sunday, saying Henry and the national team had “unfinished business.” The former France striker was an assistant coach for Belgium from 2016-18 and he was with the squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, when the Red Devils reached the semifinals. Henry then took the coaching job at Monaco and has since been in charge of Major League Soccer team Montreal, stepping down in February for personal reasons. Belgium begins its Euro 2020 campaign against Russia on June 12 in Group B. (PTI)
